New Industry Planned for Winsted on Willow Street
Winsted plans a new hardening furnace plant on Willow street near the Naugatuck station this spring. Backers include Egbert H. Northrop of New Milford, now invested in Standard Manufacturing Co, and builder John J. Carroll. Northrop has devised a process for hardening cast iron rolls. Justice of the Peace Hicks ordered 1,000 gallons of cider seized from John Green of Norfolk forfeited after Green pleaded guilty to illegal sales and failed to appear at the hearing, with fine and costs totaling 238. Green acted as his own bondsman. Meanwhile, Sargent & Co in New Haven will shift to an eight-hour schedule starting Monday, affecting about 1,400 to 1,500 workers due to weakening orders. the North and South iron foundries had already adopted this hours change since January 1.
