Wallis Granted Divorce Over Desertion Claim
John W. Wallis was granted a divorce from Annie Elizabeth Wallis on the ground of desertion. He testified he came to this country in 1884 alone after his wife refused to join him from Sheffield, England. They had two daughters, Florence and Edith, now about 24, with Wallis having stopped supporting them about sixteen years ago. He sent money and a photo request that went unanswered. The court heard his English pastor’s remark about a letter he wrote that would melt a stone’s heart, then explained the phrase to the judge. After testimony from Edward A. Levick, Wallis’s decree was allowed.
