Attempt on Shah of Persia Leaves Three Dead In Bomb Attack

In Teheran two bombs were hurled at the Shah’s procession. One exploded midair, the other near his automobile, killing three outriders and wounding the chauffeur and several bystanders. The Shah escaped, riding in a rear carriage, while troops surrounded the house from which the bombs were thrown. No arrests were made.

Edward G. Burnham died at 81 after complications from grip. He founded Eaton, Cole & Burnham and was among the wealthiest in Bridgeport. Survived by a son and two daughters.

Cruiser Chester Starts Standardization Trial

Rockland Me February 28 the scout cruiser Chester built by Bath Iron Works left its anchorage to begin official standardization trials on the Rockland mile course. Clear weather with a light westerly wind allowed runs at varying speeds to determine revolutions per minute needed for target speeds. The Chester uses Parsons Westinghouse turbine engines, a first for the American navy, while Birmingham and Salem follow different propulsion. Trials compare motive power with a contract speed of 24 knots, with Birmingham to try March 11 and Salem likely in April.

An eight inch stick of dynamite was found on the floor of Joseph Landry’s hardware store in Broad street after an attempted blast overnight. Cremation of Yale Professor Bourne Ends Quiet Funeral

The body of Professor Edward Gaylord Bourne of Yale Universitys history department was cremated at Fresh Pond Long Island following the prior cremation of Professor Seymour. Prison for life in second degree plea in Bridgeport

Lukos Kuslinski pleaded guilty to murder in the second degree after withdrawing a prior guilty plea to first degree murder for the August shooting death of Miss Lydia Mallett in Trumbull. State Attorney Judson consented. court sentenced him to life in state prison. Foreigners narrowly escape death in boarding house gas incident

Two foreigners nearly died from accidental asphyxiation in a boarding house at 185 East Main Street. One was revived, the other remained unconscious at noon. It is believed they did not shut the gas off completely. The tenant vacancy ad appeared in the Democrat.
