A Baltimore and Ohio express plowed into a lumber pile at Laurel Run near Dawson Pa killing many and injuring more than thirty. The wreck tore apart two baggage cars a day coach and a sleeping car with flames spreading through a collapsing train. Forty nine bodies identified and eleven unknown were recovered with dozens more feared dead as relief workers battled fire and cold.

Pardon for McCoy Missed by Five Minutes
Canon City December 24 Governor Peabody began a pardon for Streeter McCoy, but was told by the warden no pardon was needed for the Coal Dale train robber. McCoy died five minutes before the call to write the pardon. He had served about one year of a twenty five year sentence and was ill. His father also spent eighteen years in the same prison for murder.

Death of Martin Bergin in Waterbury
Martin Bergin a well known Waterbury undertaker died at 3 AM at his home 102 Walnut street after a few days illness from pneumonia. Born in Ireland he came to the United States forty years ago and worked in Waterbury and Southington before running a bakery and later an undertaker and livery firm with offices at South Main and Scovill streets. He leaves a widow and eleven children and was active in several fraternal orders. Funeral Saturday at Sacred Heart church with burial in St Joseph's cemetery.
