Remarkable revival after rare surgical life-restoring operation
A New York surgeon Dr Albert Shunk performed a daring case on 12 year old James McGaughey with appendiceal abscess. After opening the cavity the patient appeared dead but the doctor revived him by draining and washing the abdomen with hot water then restoring heart action. The boy has since steadily improved and is gaining strength daily.

Brooklyn Briefs Contractor Hurlburt builds easy incline on Washington Ave
In Brooklyn, contractor Hurlburt finishes the Washington avenue boardwalk. The incline runs ten percent grade and is described as easy to ascend. A lamp explosion last night in a 19 South Leonard Street upper tenement caused a small blaze. Mrs Carney attempted to throw burning bedding from the window but the shutter fastener caught, drawing fire units to the scene. Fire was quickly extinguished with minor charring. The home, owned by Thomas M. Shannahan of 54 Riverside Street, is insured.
