Investiture of Monseigneur McManus in Rome ceremony

The ceremony in Guyeva New York on December 12 invested Rev Monseigneur McManus as Domestic Prelate of the Papal Household. Bishop McQuaid of Rochester led Mass with a large crowd of clergy and laymen, presenting a $1000 gold purse to the new prelate.

Blaine orders aid for three Americans in Corea case

Silcott Investigation Report to be Presented Today

Washington discloses that the Silcott investigation committee is near completion and will submit a report to the House on the defalcation in the sergeant-at-arms office. Desperate Battle Between Rival Colliery Forces Ends in Arrests

At Reavina Pennsylvania near Schuylkill Haven a hand to hand clash broke out on Draper Colliery banks between Draper colliery workers led by Superintendent Brown and Beddall and Co led by William J. McCarty of St. Clair. Several hundred men fought with stones bricks and clubs for about thirty minutes. Five Draper ringleaders were arrested and both sides warn of renewed hostilities.

Bigamy case leads to arrest in Newsene area

Paulus Verholy a 38 year old stonemason from Austria was arrested at 10 last night charged with bigamy. He wed Johanna Kundrick in Austria in 1880 and had three children with her before deserting. She arrived in New York in 1884 and found Verholy with an Irish wife in Low Point who also bore him two children. The couple lived in Newsene under the Anglicized surname Verher. The wife and children are in need of aid as she intends to press full prosecution.
