Archbishop John J Williams Dies in Boston at 57
Boston, Aug 31. The Most Rev John J Williams archbishop of the Boston diocese and leading figure in New England Catholic life died last night between 5 50 and 9 o'clock at his home on Harrison Avenue. Born April 27 1822 in Boston he served as archbishop since 1875 and oversaw rapid growth of the church here. Funeral services will be held at Holy Cross Cathedral next Wednesday with Cardinal Gibbons officiating. the dead office will be sung Tuesday afternoon.
