After the Satama attack in which Dr Macedo died and Capt Jootsa and others wounded, pirates attacked five armed junks towed by steam launches, a battle followed and the pirates were driven off with heavy losses. German and British traders urge ministers to press China for action.
A crowd of about 60 watched a heated Street fight between Harry O Hagan captain of Waterbury and Dan O Neill Springfield manager near Strobel’s store on Exchange Place. O Neill was cut above the eye and treated. O Hagan left with friends. The clash followed a Springfield dispute and was described as the town’s most exciting public street incident.

Aug 24 The United States gold bonds found in the possession of Ha Clark, arrested on suspicion, are identified as part of a robbery from Leon A Billings Canton Mass. He reports bonds valued over 20000 were taken August 1 from his post office. Robbers broke in, bound him, dynamited the safe, and took bonds money and stamps. Billings notified the treasury department in Washington and stated payment on the bonds. Clark says he found the bond in the street and was in New York the night of the robbery. In Worcester, Reba Robst of Philadelphia, with a broken spine from a third story fall at the city hotel, remains serious today with recovery in doubt. Relatives say Robst has lived at the hotel with her family. unclear if the fall was accidental or a suicide attempt.
The Wabash special carrying two theatre companies to Chicago and one to Detroit and the Canadian Pacific passenger train to Toronto collided near St Thomas Ontario. The Pacific engineer was killed, a man seriously hurt, and the master severely injured and did not survive.
