Portsmouth N H Aug 17 peace plenipotentiaries adjourned for lunch after morning talks on article nine, believed to cover Japan's war cost reimbursement. No agreement reached and the issue was laid aside while they plan to discuss the next article.
The Iroquois and Temeraire split wins in a four mile windward leeward race. Temeraire leads series with two victories while Iroquois has one. A freshening NW breeze is forecast and the two contenders will race again tomorrow to decide the Canadian cup.
Somerville on August 17 announces a 200 target program for the state trap shoot at Somerville Gun Club. Opens at 1:30 in the morning with six fifteen, three twenty and two twenty five day contests. Entries for sweepstakes and championship total $15 with 1 cent per target. Prizes include 20, 5, 10, and 5 and a gold badge for the top average. Notables from Massachusetts and nearby pros will compete. Special trolleys run from Thompsonville for visitors.
Wakefield Mass Aug 17 The Interstate shoot at Bay State Military Rifle association range begins with teams from five states except Vermont. Each team of twelve volunteers aims at 29 60 and 1000 yard slow fire 200 and 4 yard rapid fire and a skirmish. Ten shots per man per line. Saybrook Conn Aug 17 the first fatal accident connected with the railroad bridge over the Connecticut river at this point occurred today. John Keenan 38 was instantly killed when a large pile fell on him. He stood on a float unloading piles as they were moved from boat to shore a timber slipped and crushed his head.

Long Branch resident Augli-Jacob Wert, a well known member of the Central Gun club, attended a clambake at Pleasure Bay Tuesday night where Temple Mystic Shrine was noted. Wert, born in Morris County forty one years ago, is survived by his wife.
