Baker Gilmer Case Prosecution Opens With Harsh Language
In Amiapoy Virginia on August 11 the prosecution led by J C Wyser opened the Baker Gilmer case with a vivid account of courtship and marriage ending in murder. He warned Baker faced the death penalty for murder most foul as Gilmer sought redress in court. Blair followed, attacking Mrs Gilmer’s testimony as untrustworthy.

Prisoners Escape From Somerset County Jail
Five inmates escaped from the new Somerset County Jail at noon, using a bricked-up wall opening and a rope from a ham mock to reach the attic and down to the ground. One prisoner was captured as he descended the rope, while a sixth was intercepted and returned to the jail as he descended. Deputy Basson organized a posse to pursue the fugitives.

Sunbury Pennsylvania August 11 A bold grave robbing attempt aimed at the remains of the late Hon J B Packer was thwarted by a railroad brakeman who heard noises near the cemetery opposite the lower yard of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Three men fled into the underbrush dropping picks and shovels with a foot of earth excavated over the grave but left no trace of the thieves. Detectives are pursuing clues as guards were posted after the incident.

Next Door Love and Bridal Echoes in Old Boston Spotlight
A collage of verse and comic snippets recalls domestic joys from Boston society. Poems weave images of a child named Dorothy and neighbors, while light humor sketches untangle early marriage plans and travel banter. The piece paints small town warmth and humor through dated verse and jokes.
