Reported off Chung Ching at 4 40 am two Russian destroyers fired sixty shots at a small merchant vessel Keisha. Seven hits killed the captain and a boy and injured two crew. The ship proceeded on her voyage.
Ithaca New York August 3. Grocer B B Borafwagh credited for solving a wave of robberies. Four youths Elmer Bichel Roger Barton Ernest Minor Moravab Quall aged 17 to 20 are in custody after confessing to multiple burglaries. Bichel recently released on suspended sentence Minor from four months jail Barton and Qual from Elvira reformatory.
In New York during a thunder storm Debiasto sat on Valley Street counting money for a trip to Italy. A lightning flash struck his pocketbook burning about $200 while his hands remained unscorched. Debiasto suffered shock for several hours.
Pittsburg and Shaffer of the Amalgamated Association notify Cohoes Steel Co of Tray N Y that operation may begin if a wage scale agreement is reached. The plant has not recognized the union and this marks an eastern invasion of the steel industry on a cotton-era basis. South Manchester August 2 A man is arrested here last night by State Police Troop J Hurley on suspicion of being the masker of Devin Anderson in Southford on July. He is confined in the jail but it was expected that Superintendent Kean of the state police would identify him as George C Stewart a former soldier in the Philippines.
Patterson New Jersey reports a silent city hall with all salaries due but awaiting mayor William H Belcher's signature after his disappearance last Monday. Officials fear a ten day wait before an acting mayor can take charge. Rumors place Belcher en route to California to join brother Peter C Belcher a Red Lands real estate dealer. Prosecutor Emly estimates Belcher borrowing at 75000 dollars.
Sunrise bugle call opened the second day of the St Marys ship canal semi centennial celebration in the government park adjoining the ship canal linking Lake Superior to the lower lakes. In Brooklyn at 643 Lorimer Street a three story double frame building burned early today. Tenants were injured jumping from windows and two firemen were burned rescuing a man on the roof. Fire destroyed several barns belonging to Representative Andrew G. Barnes near Boarman's Bridge New Milford. Seven horses a bull and calves perished along with hay. Loss about 12000 dollars with 9000 dollars insurance carried by Barnes. Cause under investigation with suspicion of malice.
A massive civil parade marked the New England league Fraternal Order of Eagles field day in Providence Rhode Island with 7 5 men in line. Delegations from Massachusetts Connecticut Rhode Island Maine and Vermont joined New York City. After the parade the group boarded harbor steamers for Crescent Park where a dinner was served.
A morning Baltimore and Ohio line train from Lockwood to Johnstown derailed eight miles from Johnstown due to a broken rail. One woman was killed and another severely injured, with six more passengers badly hurt and hospitalized after the cave toppled into a creek.

News arrives of the deaths by fire of Mrs Lyman R Hawkes and visitor Miss Anna Skipper during a blaze at the Hawkes family house in a Warren village. Fire swept the fit eluded section as firefighters battled the blaze.
