Mining men on the Larkin Presnell farm Dog Skin have been testing a vein of asbestos. A carload may go to a Mitchell County mill and, if tests are favorable, a company will be formed to acquire the property and start development. Residents recall earlier asbestos mining on Rich Mountain.

T B Younce former Wataugan and chief of police in Jefferson City Tenn was killed by Charles H Newman on September 5th. A manhunt followed with a $300 reward offered. two more arrests were made including Robert Solomon 18 and Rantie Wright. An autopsy found a single .32 caliber bullet fatal to Younce.
Deputy Hagaman and Councill Harmon raided a sawmill site near Bamboo in Elk Township on Saturday afternoon. They seized a complete distillery with a large boiler and arrested Raleigh Moretz Willett Moretz and Tracy Turner alleged operators. One other man escaped. Turner and the Moretz brothers are held on $1000 bonds and waived examination to the spring term of Superior Court.
The First National Bank of Bristol and the Unaka National Bank of Johnson City won a jury verdict in Watauga Superior Court against John P. Lewis and Madge Lewis. The decision confirms Mrs Lewis owns the Blowing Rock properties and two diamond rings, while the banks receive automobiles, jewelry, and two horses.

Dr. B B Dougherty, the president, is recovering at home. Dr J J Blair and Mr Hunt visited the college. Dean J D Rankin spoke at Blowing Rock High School opening.
A Boone Township Republican primary at the courthouse drew attention when W R Lovill, a Democratic Senate candidate, spoke to a Republican audience. The well known orator urged delegates to join the Democratic Party, calling for unity and repentance through a faith tinted call to democracy. The remarks drew good natured applause from attendees.
Camp Nimrod Triplett United Confederate Veterans will hold its annual reunion at Appalachian State Teachers College on September 25-26. The program begins with a 10 a.m. assembly and devotion on Thursday, a brief business session, and a memorial service set for 2 p.m. Friday led by Rev. P. A. Hicks with address by Professor A. M. Norton. Meals and entertainment are provided by the college. organizers expect veterans and visitors from nearby counties.
Baptist churches across the county will mark Fellowship Week on September 21 and 28 celebrating the 100th anniversary of Baptist work in North Carolina. A Boone Church program on September 20 features speakers including P A Hicks, I G Greer, M L Mott, J A Williams, and many others to discuss local church history, centennial goals, and naming the church.
