Cove Creek High Opens for 1932 33 Session
Cove Creek High School began its 1932 33 term last Monday with about 500 students. Principal S F Horton said the year should be strong, as 85 students start their first year in high school. Superintendent Smith Hagaman attended the opening and spoke briefly. Revs Grahm and McKaughan led chapel services as many patrons offered encouragement. About 250 students will enter grades and 250 in high school, with new students from Skulls Mills joining the enrollment. The faculty organized in the afternoon and mapped courses for the year.

Mrs. Lee Clawson Dies After Caesarean Operation
Mrs. Lee Clawson of the Rutherwood community died at Davis Hospital Statesville last Sunday morning after failing to rally from a caesarean operation performed the prior Wednesday. Funeral services were held at the Rutherwood home Monday with interment at Gragg burying ground on New River. She is survived by her husband two infant daughters her parents and several brothers and sisters. formerly Miss Fairy Gragg she was born in the county and lived here all her life.

Creditors of Carolina Stores to Get Dividend
A 15 percent dividend to creditors of Carolina Stores Inc was paid Tuesday by Roger M Winborne receiver. The payment brings total paid to 40 percent on general creditor claims and all preferred and secured claims have been liquidated totaling 57054 65. The receiver continues operations with optimism for profit in the next six months. Winborne has been permanent receiver since early this year and earlier worked with a Virginia store chain.

James Hodges Dies After Illness at 82 in Mount Vernon
James Hodges aged 82 died at his Mount Vernon home after a ten day illness likely from age related disabilities. The funeral was Friday at 2 pm conducted by Rev. R C Eggers with Rev. P A Hicks assisting. Interment followed in the family graveyard. Surviving are his widow and two sisters, one in Boone and one in Kentucky. He was born near Hodg Gap and lived in Watauga County most of his life before moving to Mount Vernon as a child. He worked as a farmer and was a longtime member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.

Nine Watauga men from Cove Creek Township were found not guilty by a Wilkesboro federal court jury after about four hours of deliberation. The verdict ends charges of conspiring to curb electoral rights in the 1930 election, with eight Laurel Creek Democrats acquitted a week earlier.
