A two-horse wagon carried ten people through Salisbury yesterday. In the wagon were M Canady and his wife plus seven children and his mother in law. After the war he married near Madison Court House, Virginia and lived there. He had long desired to return home but could not save enough money from labor to pay expenses until recently when he managed to purchase a team and begin the journey back to life and home.
United States Senator and General Wade Hampton visits Baltimore stating he plans to keep a low political profile. He asserts the Farmers Alliance is rapidly disintegrating in the South and will vanish within four years, with South Carolina already seeing leaders depart. He calls the alliance based on demagogy and fanaticism and predicts no lasting power for secret political groups.
