The Blowing Rock high school will hold a debate Friday night on whether Al Smith is better qualified than Herbert Hoover. Paul Foster and Jay Knight defend the affirmative, Bynum Crisp and Lucile Reid the negative. A pie supper fundraiser at the school raised money for the elementary library, and a Halloween party is set for next Wednesday with student committees coordinating the event.

Plans Adopted for New Baptist Church Here
At a congregational meeting last Wednesday the Baptist church accepted plans for a $100,000 brick and concrete church plant. The three story building will measure 152 by 83 feet with seating for 1,000 to 1,200 and about 40 Sunday school rooms. First unit likely to be built behind the current structure and completed before tearing down the old building. Blueprints are in progress and construction hopes to begin in spring weather permitting.

H. W. Horton Building Razed for New Storefront
The H. W. Horton building long used as a garage by W. R. Winkler & Company is to be razed and replaced with a two story and basement commercial building costing 12000 to 15000 dollars. A department store will occupy the new structure with a large street level store room and twelve offices on the second floor. The Brick Row Coffey hotel annex, acquired by Horton in 1918, is removed as the last trace of the old era. Winkler moves his garage to the former Ford building on Depot street.

Two Watauga Boys Win Honors at Wake Forest
Roy Robinson of Reese and Wade E Brown of Blowing Rock were chosen as two of the society day debaters of Wake Forest College to be held November 17. Caudle of North Wilkesboro was also chosen to represent the Eu society with Brown. Debaters become intercollegiate entrants for the spring. Caudle and Brown were Mars Hill alumni. Caudle is senior year while Brown is in first year. Robinson is a former Appalachian State Normal student.
