Howard P. Savage of Chicago won a hard fought election as national commander at the Philadelphia convention after 21 ballots. Colonel J Monroe Johnson withdrew during the 21st ballot amid a five hour deadlock. Other officers elected include J G Sims, Thomas Busha, John A Towne, Stafford King, John E Curtiss and Rev Joseph J Wolfe. Savage is general superintendent of maintenance for the Chicago Elevated Railway and 42 years old, with service in France as a first lieutenant with the 55th Engineers. The convention adjourned to meet in Paris next year.
