Incidents of Negro Insolence Reported in Statesville

In Statesville last Sunday several confrontations between Black residents and whites were noted. A Black youth attacked a White boy on the sidewalk and was chastised by the boy’s father. A woman shoved a boy into a ditch and later hurled obscenities. A colored woman elbowed a white gentleman as he leaned over a fence.

Rutherford county Negro convention nominates Miller and Logan

A Rutherford county convention of 73 or 100 Black attendees met on Saturday and nominated Martin Y. Miller colored for register of deeds and William Logan colored for county commissioner. Rutherford's Black residents are very disgruntled and are opposing their white allies.

Open Letters To Populists Of Rock Inzlam County

Open letters urge Populists to align with Democrats over gold standard tax and race issues. Writer claims victory against Clevelandism, warns against Republican influence, and calls for unity with Democrats to protect women and white supremacy, signed by Williams et al. Madison NC. Goldsboro Argus predicts five thousand white Republicans in South Carolina will vote Democratic. Wayne County will deliver the Democratic ticket with large majorities.
