The quarterly M E Church meeting occurred October 7 and 8 led by Rev. Williams. Women’s Missionary Society was hosted by Mrs. T H Taylor. Local families and friends visited across Winston Salem Statesville Boone Chattanooga Arden Morganton Yanceyville and Christ School. Events included a weinie roast for Cove Creek High School faculty and a bridge Mah Jongg party hosted by Miss Anne Moretz. Many residents plan to attend Charlotte races next week.

The community reports a strong sap flow with lasses and buckwheat cakes in progress. Rev. T. G. Williams fulfilled a regular appointment at the Methodist church and may be reassigned. Mrs. Sarah Greene died after a week since her son Lon. milk poison is cited. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Winkler visited Mrs. Winkler’s sister. several locals visited J. C. Proffit. Mrs. Greene’s burial at Zionville drew many from the area. A. W. Hodgson travels to Asher County for business. H. Profit and wife welcomed a baby boy on the 12th. The three teachers, Miller, Beach, and Sherwood, spent weekend at Cove Creek homes.

Cove Creek Community Fair Planned at Cove Creek High
Plans for a community fair at Cove Creek High next Saturday are complete and expected to succeed. The day’s program appears in this issue. S. F. Horton attended the Western District Teachers Meeting in Asheville and urges Wa-itauga teachers to attend a Winston-Salem session Oct 24 25. Cove Creek lost 7 6 to Mabel in a Friday game on the local ground. Mr J S McBride remains weak after recent operations and friends hope for a full recovery. Wilson brothers finished painting the new school building giving it a markedly improved appearance.

Six Cheese Factories Sweep Forsyth Fair Prizes
Watauga County cheese factories took first, second, and third at the Forsyth County Fair in Winston-Salem. Judge W. L. Clevenger scored Brushy Fork 93.5, Cove Creek 93.0, Beaver Dam 92.5, with Haywood 92.0, Democrat Buncombe 90.0, and Horse Shoe Henderson 88.0. The next scoring is set for Asheville on November 11. Brushy Fork has orders for two Swiss cheeses to be shipped once matured.

Deep Gap social club planned grand October meeting
The Rocky Point Community Social Club will hold a grand meeting on October 25 to raise funds to promote Deep Gap in eastern Watauga. A music concert and a prize contest will award a gold bracelet watch to the most popular lady, with refreshments sold at a nominal price, and all proceeds supporting publicity for Deep Gap as a gateway to Watauga.

Appalachian School Keeps Spirits High With Busy Week
President B. B. Dougherty recovered from illness while the Training School team opened the season with a 42 to 17 win over Minneapolis in the new gym. Mrs Flowe's history program showcased Columbus and the discovery of America. The county teachers association met at the courthouse with strong turnout and talks on progress led by sick County Superintendent Prof. Smith Hagaman.

The Watauga Teachers Meeting held October 11 in Boone with 106 teachers present. Prof W J Rowe chaired. discussions covered school atmosphere teaching morals, pupil cooperation, parent outreach, recess use, curriculum and consolidation. A unanimous vote supported creating a welfare officer for the county.

Pleas McGhinis Trails Fall From Favor in Shootings
Pleas McGhinis, long known in Watauga for whiskey activity, again rises in a sheriff’s report for shooting Deputy Cole after his son Thussel’s arrest for house breaking. The deputy survived. McGhinis had earlier been paroled on good behavior and now faces renewed arrest and imprisonment.
