Chicago September 23. Rev I A Barbour of Belden Avenue Baptist Church stirred the Baptist meeting by denying a personal devil and arguing Scripture portrays such passages figuratively. He contended Christ’s temptation narrative places him already in the wilderness and that a literal journey to Jerusalem would require miracles. The talk drew sharp criticism and is set for discussion next Monday. A separate report notes Bet tie Johnson murdered by Christopher Medlin. coroner’s jury ruled gunshot wounds caused her death. Medlin, a nephew of Mrs stone, was arrested and jailed.

A man forced entry at about 10 instantly killing the elderly Mrs Stone and then threatened the colonial worker Bettie Johnson and demanded money, with no cash found. The attacker fled after the shooting.
