Big Guns Placed On Court Lawn In Watauga
The American Legion post secured two large artillery pieces for the courthouse lawn. A 4.7 inch American field gun from 1904 sits on display, while a British 5 inch gun weighing 9,857 pounds and 24 feet long will be mounted after transport from Aberdeen Maryland. The second piece saw World War I service and was obtained with congressional aid from Congressman Doughton.

Mrs. Mary A. Wood Laid to Rest at Elmwood Cemetery
Mrs. Mary Ann Critcher Wood died at her home near Oxford Tuesday morning at 83. Funeral services were held at the home of C. P. Critcher with Rev. W. D. Poe and Rev. C. L. Gillespie officiating. Interment followed in Elmwood Cemetery. She is survived by two brothers R. T. Critcher and C. M. Critcher and three sisters Mrs. J. P. Stovall Mrs. Ella Critcher Gooch and Mrs. Lizzie Critcher May. Her husband died in 1880. She spent 1920 in Watauga visiting relatives and was a niece of Nathaniel Critcher and a first cousin of Mrs. A. M. Vandyke, whose illness was noted recently.

381 Jobs For Watauga Under Federal Program
Watauga County will distribute 381 jobs to needy persons under the Federal Civil Works program, announced by Mrs. Thomas O Berry state administrator. Fourteen thousand relief workers will shift to civil works projects immediately, with 20,000 more on direct aid to gain jobs by December 1.
