Navy Armament Delusion Warned Amid Debate

Surgeon Sews Heart Lining In Man After Knife Accident

Dr Charles Goodman at Beth Israel Hospital sewed three stitches in the lining of a man’s heart and one in the heart itself on a patient named Israel Ziff of 238 East 105th Street. Ziff, brought in dying from a knife wound through the lungs, survived with blood flow controlled by House Surgeon Alfred Schwartz. A chest opening used special apparatus to prevent lung collapse. stitches were also placed in the lungs. Superintendent Louis J. Frank announced the operation highly successful and said Ziff could go home in a few days.

German Gas Victim John Colton Clayton Arrives in London

London dispatch reports John Colton Clayton, English born journalist now American citizen, arrived in London with a paralyzed left arm from a Hill 60 gas wound near Ypres. He joined the British Red Cross, bought his own uniform, funded provisions, and lent his car. He recounts the brutal effects of German gas and horrific battlefield scenes witnessed since November.

Weaves and Stretches Wire Fence Machine Invented

A motor driven fence building machine weaves and erects wire fences at about 250 feet per hour. It can build fences from nine inches to five feet high and offers 25 to 50 styles by gear changes. End and corner posts must be set before use, with spacing up to two miles. Wires line the fence path as guide markers.
