Finals Schedule For Blowing Rock School Graduation Week

The Blowing Rock Consolidated School completes its finals Friday May 12 at 8 pm with seventh grade graduation led by Grover Robbins Jr and others. The high school baccalaureate is Sunday May 14 at 8 pm at the Presbyterian Church. Class Night is Monday May 15 at 8 pm and graduation Tuesday May 16 at 8 pm with Dr. H J Derthick delivering the literary address.

Farthing Awarded Weekly Wages by Industrial Board

North Carolina Industrial Commission directs Raleigh to pay Albert C. Farthing deputy sheriff $17.31 weekly for six weeks plus medical and hospital bills for an injury on September 17, 1932 arising from his employment. Sheriff L. M. Farthing is dismissed as a party defendant. a $20 attorney fee is allowed.

Fire Threat Fails To Reach Smithey Store After Poultry House Blaze

A fire from a rear poultry housewood threatened Smithey's mercantile store Monday morning but was confined by firefighters. Outbuildings burned while several fowl escaped unharmed. In Forsyth County alfalfa shows a strong spring stand with fifteen acres reported by T. J. Berath.

Boone High School graduation honors 58 graduates

Commencement exercises at Boone High School drew a full audience as 58 students received diplomas. Rex Hagaman was valedictorian and spoke on past reminiscences and future guidance. Ollie Jean Coffey and Banner Miller delivered citizenship reflections, while Miss Wilcox read the class poem Farewell. The Glee Club performed and Rex Hagaman, Ollie Jean Coffey, and Jean Wilcox were noted for remarkable attendance.

Saturday marked the close of Cove Creek High School’s most successful year as forty graduates received diplomas in a court scene. Clean-Up Week Proclaimed to Beautify Boone Town

Mayor J F Moore issues a May 15 to May 21 general clean-up week urging residents to set out light trash for pickup and to remove heavy junk from properties livestock and poultry to be managed to avoid nuisance. Officials seek cooperative effort to improve cleanliness and sanitation and preserve moral tone.

Nine Arrested For Participating Sunday Baseball Game

Nine Mabel residents of the Mabel community and members of the neighborhood baseball team were arrested Sunday afternoon as they were about to enter a game with a Hudson nine. Trial is set for Saturday morning before Justice C F Thompson. The group won 16 to 8 in the incident. Warrants were signed by Rev J A McKaughan and served by Sheriff A Y Howell on nine individuals. Attorneys indicate Sunday baseball falls under an old statute allowing a potential fine up to one dollar.

90 Per Cent Depositors Favor Reorganization Plan of Bank

Watauga County Bank aims to resume normal operations as 80 to 90 percent of stockholders and depositors sign the reorganization agreement. Officials report ongoing efforts, past due notes renewals, and cooperation from all interested parties. A reopening date will depend on Banking Commissioner approval and completion of final details.

Sheriff Captures Still Near Wilkes Watauga Line

Sheriff A Y Howell and deputies seized a fifty gallon distillery on Stony Fork near the Wilkes Watauga line and destroyed beer and backings. It was the sixteenth illicit outfit captured in his tenure. In April 46 offenders were jailed for violations of prohibition laws. fifteen more have been jailed this month.

College Seniors Hear Andrews at Finals Friday

Appalachian State closed its year with an address by Superintendent T Wingate Andrews of High Point to 45 four-year seniors and 77 two-year normal graduates. He warned education must outpace chaos and urged graduates to let high ideas guide their lives.

Boone Girl Receives Honors at Salem College

In the 1933 34 elections at Salem College Winston Salem Miss Mary Frances Linney daughter of Mrs F A Linney of this city was asked to be assistant advertising manager of The Salemite the weekly college paper She was also selected a member of the Y W C A as one of the committee chairmen and named to the Athletic Council as manager of hiking Miss Linney is a member of the incoming junior class at Moravian College and is extremely popular with her fellow students.
