The Dan iel Boone Chapter of the Izaak Walton League held its first regular meeting at the Daniel Boone Hotel. Baxter M. Linney was elected president and R. L. Clay secretary treasurer. Mrs. Alice Greer of Malad City Idaho died February 3 after residing there since 1911. She was buried in Malad City and was a member of Thomas Chapel Methodist Church near Trade Tennessee. Survived by husband Austin Greer a daughter Ethel Richards a son Paul Greer and multiple siblings all named with residences in North Carolina Tennessee Idaho Maryland and Washington.
Boone High School students staged a minstrel show last Saturday in Boone that drew strong applause and will be repeated Friday March 7 at Cove Creek High School auditorium. Farmers plan a larger spring planting and intensive farming. Local leaders spoke on Burley tobacco and milk production for Kraft plant at Mountain City.
Hodges Drug Company announces its first semi annual one cent sale. Customers pay the regular price for a drug and an extra one cent buys another article of the same kind. The promotion runs through the rest of the week.
E C Turner Ashe County Farm Agent spoke on home gardens at a Civitan Club and ladies clubs sponsored event in the Lovill Home dining room on the college campus. He cited soil prep pruning and pest control and estimated local gardens could add up to 200000 in value for the county.
The Thirteenth District including Caldwell Alexander Wilkes Ashe Watauga Avery Burke and McDowell counties prepares for the District Music Contest. Registration and fees due by March 29 to district chairman Mrs F N Blackwell Lenoir NC. Fees 50c per entered event, doubles after March 29. Davenport College to host April 11 event.
Officials led by John A. Arey report Catawba County has banished all scrub dairy bulls, replacing 66 scrubs and 86 purebreds with registered stock. Four auctions sold 28 scrubs to butchers, with ongoing efforts to prevent future scrub calves.
