Mrs Gatlin Acquitted After Rockingham Jury Verdict
A Rockingham County jury acquitted Alma Petty Gatlin of murdering her father Smith T. Petty at a Reidsville home. After three hours and thirteen minutes of deliberation Wednesday night the courtroom stayed quiet as the verdict was announced. Gatlin sobbed aloud and ran into the arms of her husband Eugene Gatlin, Reidsville fire chief, after the freed word.

A Good Woman Gone Mrs Farthing of Beaver Dam
Mrs. Farthing wife of the late Rev Harrison Farthing of Beaver Dam died at her home Friday night. Rev L A Hurst conducted the Bethel Baptist church funeral Saturday afternoon. A large crowd attended including many Boone relatives. She was formerly Carrie Dougherty aunt of the Dougherty brothers of Appalachian State Normal. Her son Cartier Farthing, now with the county road commission, survives. A devout Christian active in church and Sunday school, she was known for charity and sympathy.

Three Men Die in Shelby Hotel Fire Disaster
A blaze originating in the Central hotel Shelby on Thursday morning killed H. H. Carmichael and Dr. J. R. Henderson of Charlotte and Henry Kerr the hotel clerk. Six or more injured as firefighters from Charlotte Gastonia Cherryville Kings Mountain battled the flames for hours. The fire started in a second floor linen closet at 5 30 and overwhelmed Kerr who ran to warn guests.

H Joseph Hardin 71 a leading county figure died at his home near the city after months of illness. He lived there all his life, built a sizable fortune, and supported the local Methodist church. Sebastain Florida February 27 a turbulent sea tonight clutched the body of Harry Brooks who dived to his death off Melbourne two days ago while attempting aviation history in a flivver plane.
