In Blowing Rock and surrounding areas excitement rose as news spread of a search for Broscius Miller the alleged Morganton slayer. deputy sheriffs and bloodhounds were sent along Yonahlossee Trail and Mulberry Creek with little luck. The Blowing Rock Band was reorganized at a town hall meeting with officers and a dance to raise funds. Two girls camps Allo weste e and Yonahlessee prepared for term enrollments, attracting applicants from many states. A local man Richard Gather was arrested for carrying concealed weapons. A carrier pigeon found on Main Street tied to a pigeon race was identified by its leg band.

For the second time in a week Chief of Police Story and J Allen Gragg interrupted the liquor trade by locating and seizing a 56-gallon blockade still on the south side of the Blue Ridge near Yonahlassee trail. They found mash at the furnace and waited as an approaching owner fled into laurel and fog.
