General Reduction In Postal Rates Announced
The Post Office Dept in Washington announces rate cuts effective July 1 across mail classes. Post cards drop to one cent, third class newspapers one cent per two ounces, parcel post reduced across all zones, and zone based newspaper rates lowered. Special handling for first class parcels rises slightly, and registration up to 1000 dollars becomes allowed. An August air mail cut sets five cents for the first ounce and ten cents for each additional ounce.

Hen hatches four alligators in North Carolina
Henry Crawford in Kinston says a farm hen hatched four baby alligators about five inches long. He found an alligator nest in Pamlico County weeks earlier and placed eggs under the hen with chicken eggs. The chicken eggs failed, but the gators hatched and clucked with the hen.

General Umberto Nobile Rescued After Italia Wreck
General Umberto Nobile, stranded since the Italia disaster on May 25, has been rescued by Swedish aviators.
