Eighty Die On State Highways In May
Raleigh reports eighty persons killed on North Carolina highways in May raising five month total to 281. May deaths rise about 50 percent from April’s 48. Five month toll exceeds last year by 35. Sixty two of the 252 accidents were fatal to someone. Pedestrians accounted for 31 deaths with 15 in collisions and 22 in non collision crashes. Six fatal accidents involved children playing in the streets.

Retired Methodist Pastor J. C. Postelle Dies in Lenoir
The Rev. J. C. Postelle died at his Lenoir home Monday afternoon at 4 20 o clock. A 45 year Methodist preacher, he retired from Gastonia Conference four years ago and lived quietly here. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3 o'clock with ministers W L Sherrill and J M Downum officiating. He leaves a widow three sons and four daughters.

Boone Trail Highway Near Boone Advances to Completion
The State Highway Commission awarded contracts for over a million dollars to finish the Boone Trail Highway from Deep Gap to Boone, nine and a third miles. Nelle Teer won the main contract for 80 169 80, with bridges let to Hobbs Peabody for 27 113 70. The project shortens the Boone Wilkesboro route by about ten miles and aims for high safety with eliminated blind curves. The bridge near Wilkes County should be travel ready by September first with a twelve to eighteen month completion window and a total federal funded investment over a quarter million dollars.

State may gain two more congressmen in reapportionment
