Pulp Wood Miles in North Carolina Backed for Mills
North Carolina offers ideal sites for wood pulp and paper mills with abundant second growth pine and strong transport links. A 50 to 75 mile radius around potential sites holds 7.5 to 16 million cords of pine timber suitable for pulp, with annual growth up to 1.5 million cords. If a quarter of growth is used, daily pulp output could reach 300–350 tons in the 50 mile area and 650–700 tons in the 75 mile zone.
