With three quarters of 1 754 precincts reporting Fountain of Rocky Mount held a lead of over 11 000 votes over Langston of Goldsboro for lieutenant governor. Langston led Burgwyn by 3 000 to 4 000 as 1 325 precincts showed Fountain 68 664 Langston 56 389 Burgwyn 53 657. Grist led for labor and printing with 90 045 votes to Shipman 53 958 and Peterson 23 080 across 1 172 precincts. In Congress districts Hammer Pou Bulwinkle Kerr Clark and others won or held nominations in several districts.

Sugar Grove school grounds work continues with final June push
Sugar Grove patrons are asked to send teams again on Friday June 8 to finish the school grounds project. Many patrons have not yet participated and are urged to join. A new permanent entertainment committee was appointed by the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce to organize tourist events. The Carolina Theater opened with films and remarks by Mayor Sudderth, and Mayview Manor announced open dates. The town also planned a fiddlers convention June 15–16 and a Stenographer’s office started in the town hall amid several business changes and a high-scoring baseball game where Blowing Rock defeated Bamboo 21 to 15.

Eastland Texas June 7 A horned toad was entombed in the cornerstone of the new Eastland courthouse. Three months earlier when the old building was torn down a horned toad was removed from the cornerstone and found alive by witnesses.

Normal School expects over a thousand visitors
Officials anticipate more than a thousand visitors at the Normal School as crowds gather to manage overflow. Early estimates echo last year when about a thousand teachers attended the local institution, signaling a busy period for town residents and staff.
Demonstration School Opens Summer Session For Boone Demos
The Boone Demon school convened Tuesday with a corps of teachers for summer work. All children with any work conditions are urged to attend to remove them. Murder near Reidsville: Mrs Matherly killed in suspected robbery
Mrs William Thomas Matherly, 57, was found dead at her home near Reidsville with blunt force injuries and a smashed forehead. About 15 dollars was missing. her husband, working in a distant field, heard screams and found her body. State College Raleigh marked its 89th commencement with 206 graduates.
