Ophir Dugger 36 killed his wife and two children aged four and two at the Carter's Creek home and then slashed his own throat and body. He is dying in hospital as investigators Cited melancholia after failing to find work in Nashville and Plainsville Texas. The Jacobs family hosted the scene. Mrs Jacobs is the slain sister.

Three counties took part in the Wilkesboro contest last Saturday with the Little River choir from Alexander county led by Prof. Thomas Webster winning first prize of 105 dollars. The Popular Grove choir from Watauga County led by Prof. Z T Greene took second prize of 50 dollars. The event thanked the J L Garwood Piano and Phonograph Co for prizes. Others visiting included Miss Mary Simaron of Lenoir visiting Mrs Perkins and Mrs Anderson of Johnson City visiting Boone.
