Thomas L Lowe dies suddenly at Banner Elk
Thomas L Lowe longtime Avery county attorney died suddenly at the Banner Elk post office after returning from Newland. He practiced law 35 years in the mountains including Banner Elk for the last 25 years. He was about 65 and survived by a widow and daughter. A friend praised him as an able lawyer and ideal citizen. Interment was at Banner Elk cemetery.

Sheriff L M Farthing and Deputy P C Wyke returned Saturday from Raleigh with Herbert Wagner the slayer of Earl Moody and Dexter Byrd. Guilford County officials had learned a crowd planned to remove Wagner to Greensboro. Sheriff Stafford instructed Farthing by telephone. Wagner was moved to the state prison after daylight Saturday morning following the Raleigh transfer. The letter to Guilford officials reportedly bore the signature of L L Moody, father of one of the slain men.
