W R Gragg mayor of Boone NC died at his home Monday night following several days illness with pneumonia. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 4 30 pm at the Baptist church with Rev P A Hicks and Rev C H Moser. Surviving are wife and nine children Bernice Inez Hazel Hoy Victor Fred Nadine Joyce Kathleen. He had been a prominent businessman and civic leader in Boone and a Mason Shriner and member of Jr O U A M.

Truck Overturn Fatal Near North Wilkesboro
Charlie Minton of Elk township, about 35, died when the truck he rode in overturned on Boone Trail ten miles west of North Wilkesboro. Driver Wingate Hamby said brakes failed and speed was high. Hamby and passenger Mrs William Miller were slightly hurt. Coroner's inquest deemed the crash unavoidable. Minton survived by a wife and six children.

Claud Gragg Dies of Flu Pneumonia at 14
Claud Gragg 14, son of Mr. George Gragg of Rutherwood, died Monday night from pneumonia linked to flu. Interment was in Critcher graveyard Bamboo section Tuesday. He was the Gragg family’s youngest son and widely liked.

Beautiful Christmas Services in Bethlehem Delight Crowds
Thousands of tourists and residents gathered in Bethlehem for sol emn Christmas rites. At the Church of the Nativity leaders and choir boys led two hours of hymns before a grotto procession, followed by prayers by nuns. The Franciscan church and Latin patriarch hosted solemn masses with Jeruselem’s governor and Catholic consuls in attendance. The night was clear with a bright moon.

Henderson Younce 76 died suddenly Monday evening in his Shipley building apartment on Depot street. A long-separated brother found him after a pain struck him and a physician pronounced death. A native of the county he had lived mainly in the far west and returned from Oregon last summer with plans to settle in Boone. Funeral services and burial at Todd were held Tuesday. he is survived by a widow and two sons.
