Enthusiastic Road Meeting Sets Stage for County Highway Plan
A joint session of the County Commissioners and the Good Roads Commission met last Monday in the county rooms. They signed bonds to build a state and national standard road to the Wilkes county line amid calls for a hard surfaced route to the Caldwell county line to ease traffic between Boone and Blowing Rock. The meeting stressed regional growth, welcoming visitors from many states and urging united effort for Watauga County’s future development.

Tragedy Follows Matnoy Feud With Rural Gunfire
A long standing feud near Matnoy culminated in a Sunday morning shooting. McGuire fired from his house, striking Baird in a forehead wound while Baird returned fire, wounding McGuire. Edmisten was shot in the back and arm while helping Baird. The wounded men were treated. McGuire escaped across the state line.
