An AP reporter and an accompanying diplomat document the harrowing scene at the San Stefano cholera camp near Constantinople. Bodies litter the embankment and tents, with hundreds dead or dying, while medical aid is scarce and water and bread are limited, highlighting the severe humanitarian distress.
Soldiers brought to Constantinople hospitals and mosques find some comfort with beds and water when available and shelter from wind and rain. The cholera camp at Hademkeui near the Tehatalja lines is larger, with many thousands of patients. Most Anatolian patients come from Asia Minor to defend the Ottoman capital.
