Mrs. R. E. Johnson of Gastonia died at 8:10 p.m. after a prolonged illness. She had spent time with her daughter and a nurse at the family summer home in Boone. Mr. Johnson arrived shortly after her death. the body was moved to Gastonia for interment.

The car left Balm after lights failed and rolled down an embankment four times. Luttrell is gravely injured with possible spine involvement. Hardin and Mrs Bradley escaped serious harm.
