Pie and ice cream supper boosts Rocky Point school

Rural Watauga notes praise for Rocky Point school teachers progress and social plans, inviting every girl and woman to bring a pie for August eve social to raise school funds. Community meeting draws large crowd at school house

A Saturday session at the school drew many locals for ice cream and talks. Professor Greer from the Training School delivered the evening address to an attentive audience. The first season meeting was a success and plans call for biweekly gatherings with entertainment and lectures.

Revival notes fill new Meat Camp church with Woosley aid

The Me at Camp community reports Rev. Williams or LHikland held a regular appointment at the new church last Sunday. A revival began Sunday night with Rev. Woosley of Boone expected to assist through the week. Ill Bettie Greene is slowly improving after nineteen months of illness. Emeline Moretz of Hopkins NC visited relatives here last week. Edna Moretz attended a ten day Sunday School normal at Hickory and returned home. Bee tree hunting grows in interest with three trees found recently.

Mrs Peace Hosts Window Cleaning Party in 1924

On July 31 1924 Mrs W Leak Peace entertained in room 27 of the new Administration Building. Guests included Miss Ione Perkins Miss Jessie Query Miss Lallise Smyer Edith Farr and Messrs Ralph Arrowood and James Moore. Students helped cleanse windows to reveal Howards Knob and Rich Mountain with Bon Ami and elbow grease.

Grey Baptist gathering noted at Silverstone during association visit

The Democrat reports a large attendance at the Silverstone Baptist association on Tuesday though two local delegates arrived late for the opening services. Food was abundant provided by Cove Creek ladies, with empty plates and teat enjoyed by all. The piece also extols Cove Creek farms with bumper corn crops and seed potatoes, predicting 1500 bushels for Southern markets, and praises the county’s substantial farmers before circling back to praise for Silverstone as a meeting site.

Rev Edgar Burnz Named Near East Relief State Director in North Carolina

Rev Edgar S. Burnz has been appointed state director of Near East Relief in North Carolina and will assume Charlotte headquarters duties. He will tour the state starting August 12, meeting county chairmen and state committeemen. Burnz, a Virginia Seminary graduate, has long served in reform, missions, and Episcopal relief work, including World War camp activities and national campaigns.

Picnic At Swannanoa Farm Draws Western NC Farmers

The Swannanoa Test Farm hosts a Thursday August 21 picnic with demonstrations on scab control and nitrate effects in state orchard trials. Visitors will see beetle work by Mr. Crawford and fertilizer and seed test results, plus a women’s program for the first time. A prelude trip to Morganton Ashe ville and Biltmore estate tours precede the gathering.
