Demonstration School Plans Two Free Spring Entertainment Shows
On Wednesday April 27 the Demonstration School hosts two free performances. At 2 30 p m outdoors first and one second grade present At Spring Festival with Mary Alice Cooke crowned Queen of Spring by Von Hagaman. At 7 30 p m Mother Goose Island a musical play by other grades features Louise Cooke as Mother Goose and Doll Bush as Miss Bright guiding children through a story book world with many familiar characters.

Joseph B. Councill longtime Ashe County lawyer and Jefferson’s leading attorney died in a Charlotte hospital after influenza illness. Judge P A McElroy signed an order at the Spring term allowing Ray Johnson receiver of the bankrupt Green Park Hotel Company Blowing Rock to accept Paul Moldenhauer of Ormond Beach Florida as buyer. In a special meeting at American Legion Hall in Watauga County the Legion and auxiliary members voted unanimously for full payment of adjusted compensation certificates. Speakers argued both sides. critics warned of national financial risk, while supporters cited local economic benefits of $180,000 in circulation per county and across the country. A broader national stance was sent to Legion headquarters. Also noted: 75 farmers from eight counties inspected 126 beef cattle at Caledonia Prison Farm, Halifax County, amid a related farm meeting.

Annie Bentley twelve daughter of Mr and Mrs Jeff Bentley Laurel Fork area died at home Sunday morning from clothing burning off her body after her skirt ignited when warming closet door left open during evening meal preparations. She had epilepsy treatment requiring a strict diet and is survived by parents and siblings with interment at Danner graveyard after service at Mount Lebanon Church.

Silas M. Greene aged 57, a native of Watauga County, died at his home in Bumpass Virginia Monday morning. Paralysis listed as direct cause though he had declining health. Survived by widow and twelve children. Born Meat Camp section, lived in area until eight years ago. Former jeweler and watchmaker, well known locally. First cousin of R. M. Greene of Boone. had visited relatives here.

Seed Loan Office to Close on April 30th
The Farmers Seed Loan Office in the Watauga County Bank building will close on April 30. S. C. Eggers in charge urges farmers seeking Federal funds for planting to contact him at once. About 450 farmers have applied, with loan requests starting at $400. Most last year’s Wataugans loans have been refunded to the government.

Civilians Demand Full Bonus Payment From Congress
Boone citizens sign petitions urging Congress to settle veteran compensation certificates to spur local trade. Four copies of the petition were sent to Representative Doughton and Warren and Senators Bailey and Morrison. The effort predates the American Legion and lists no veterans' names. If cash settlements occur, Watauga veterans could receive over 185000 dollars. Meanwhile thirty five crates of Burgaw strawberries were shipped in early April with harvest prospects halved this season.

Ed Stokes Freed in Homicide Case and Trial of Ephraim Wallace
Ed Stokes of Cove Creek admitted slaying Ivy Greene after a fox hound poisoning dispute but was freed when evidence supported self defense, the case revived by a grand jury after a prior justice of the peace acquittal. Mrs. Amanda McGlamery Dies in Tennessee at 86
Mrs Amanda McGlamery formerly of Watauga County died at Key Station Tennessee last Tuesday after a long illness. Funeral services were led by Rev E C Hodges of Boone and she was buried in the neighborhood. She was 86 and a mother of eight. She had been a Baptist Church member at Key Station for four years. Keens was known as a good Christian lady.
