Sam Johnson, a colored man living near Mr. W. H. L. Smith in Pikeville Wayne county, was found dead in the woods near his hog pen. He had gone to feed the hogs and did not return as usual. His wife searched for him this morning and found him there without marks of violence, leading to the conclusion of a natural death.

The Asheville Citizen reports a proposed standard gauge railroad to run from Waynesville or Clyde to intersect the Southern in East Tennessee, likely Newport. Mr Hart of Clarksburg, W Va, visited Waynesville to promote the plan, aiming to haul lumber from the Pigeon river region and nearby lands.
