His wife searched for him this morning and found him there without marks of violence, leading to the conclusion of a natural death.

Navy Strength Grows as 1880s Fleet Expands

The United States Navy has grown since 1881 to about one hundred war vessels in various stages. Five battleships are in service, twenty five cruisers, the Vesuvius steel ram, fourteen steel gun boats, nineteen monitors, eight torpedo boats, and other engines of sea fighting. Coast defenses need bolstering with more torpedo boats and monitors.
