Des Moines Carnival Hosted by Elks Aids Business Men

Des Moines business men will entertain the state at a carnival June 23 to 28 with the Elks in charge for the Business Men's association. Windstorm Causes Major Damage Across Marshall Jasper Counties

A windstorm with tornado-like proportions damaged Marshall and Jasper counties. Homes and outbuildings northwest of Marshall were destroyed. Melbourne area saw significant damage. North Jasper near Baxter reported heavy building damage and cattle losses. No lives reported. Estimated damage around $20,000.

Twins Burned to Death in Barn Fire

Fire at a Bear Grove Dallas County barn killed three year old twin children of M. Shields who were playing inside unseen by parents. The blaze started in rubbish and spread to the barn. no rescue attempts were made before discovery of the charred remains.

Discontinuous Post Offices and Tragic Deaths Reported

Heavy rain drenches the area dispelling crop fears while multiple post offices in Florenceville Ovid Corydon Buckingham and other towns are discontinued with mail redirected. A man found near Rockdale identified by papers as C J Wartz a Wheaton Wisconsin traveling man appears to have committed suicide. In Boone Henry Zoell was electrocuted when he touched a live 11 000 volt wire while washing a horse.
