Federal probe targets similar mine stock schemes after Baillier conviction

Letson Baillier of Des Moines was convicted of using the mails to solicit investors in the White Swan mine at Baker City Oregon. Federal officials say they will investigate other alleged schemes of a similar nature aimed at securing stock sales and pursue further prosecutions.

Reminiscences of Civil War Vicksburg and River Battles

The account describes night patrols in rifle pits near Young's Point and Vicksburg, heavy casualties, and sickness. It recalls Grant's failed ditches, river operations, the Queen of the West sinking Indianola, dummy gunboats, and the April 16 1865 ironclad passage led by Admiral Porter. The narrative ends with the May 22 marching to the regimental charge.

Baptist Children’s Day services well attended though roads hindered turnout. Eli Van Sickle’s barn burned from lightning. Quinn’s woods removed Tuesday. Auten moved into town.

Lucy Randall Died After Heart Illness at Sister Home

Lucy E. Randall fourteen daughter of Wm Randall died Monday evening at her sister Mrs Ed Mc Farland home after a sudden collapse. She had suffered since March from enlargement of the heart and was a Methodist Sunday school member. Funeral conducted by Rev Schreckengast with Hallie Berdo and Mabel Morton singing a duet. Interment in City Cemetery.

Aurora and Magnet Societies Baseball Game for Cement Walk

The 2:30 PM Friday game between the Aurora and Magnet Societies aims to fund a cement walk in front of the Academy. Noted players include J T Beamer Dr Hay Sheriff Teeter Will Harvey Harry Bell Clerk Matthews and many others. umpires are Bushels of Fun Frank Wilson and Leigh Wallace.

Commencement at Graham for class of 1902 WHS

The class of 1902 at Graham finished commencement with diplomas handed by Prof. W A Pratt. Twenty eight students, both leaders and musicians, heard Rev J R Logue lead prayers and Miss Lulu Slocum recite. Rev Matt S Hughes spoke on The Art of Living urging noble character over flashy progress.
