Life terms given to Leopold Jr and Loeb for Franks murder

Chicago September 10 Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb told Sheriff Hoffman they felt fine after learning their sentence for murder. They requested two thick steaks with onions and side dishes and chocolate eclairs, claiming it might be their last good meal. The judge imposed life imprisonment, noting calculated cruelty and considering parole denial due to the nature of the crime.

Fire alarm delay costs minutes at blaze

Fire chief Emanuel Gatesej urged residents to wait at the alarm box after triggering a fire alert to guide firefighters. An alarm from box 14 reached after a fire two and a half blocks away spread undetected as bystanders did not wait, costing several minutes before firefighters located the blaze.

Three Year Old Injured by Crescent Disinfectant Poison

The three year old son of Mr and Mrs Lon Yegdin living at Tillmar Ragsdale on South Meridian swallowed cresoline a caustic disinfectant. Mrs Yocum left him asleep while she went to the store and he drank from a case containing cresoline. He was found at the top of the stairs unconscious with burning in his mouth and on his body doctors treated him and he showed improvement. The family planned to move the next day and had packed part of their belongings including the cresoline in two cases.

Shoals Boy Hurt in Carbide Blast

Shoals, Sept 10 Claude Clifton aged thirteen son of James Clifton who owns Jug Rock farm suffered a broken nose and upper lip when carbide exploded in a closed can during experimentation with Cour ier Anchlin both boys from the West Side were injured. Clifton required stitches and faces disfigurement while Anchlin sustained facial bruises and burns. Many volunteers named followed as part of a local day defense list and Hindher Mfg Co employees also offered service.

Defense Day Volunteers Named for Cresgy County

A list of county reserve officers is announced with names including Charlie Gutedall Geo Greenwell George Crome and Alvin Clark. Each is commissioned for five years by the U S president and assigned to organized reserves to serve in emergencies without pay.

Princeton Indiana Sept 10 Mrs Susan Hyneman who would have been 103 on October 18 died today at the hospital here from diseases incident to old age.

Jasper Indiana September search widens to other cities for Laura Mundy age fourteen or fifteen. A note left for her father says she is leaving home by car and that he should not follow. The county board of commissioners adjourned naming 34 precinct clerks for the October 6 registration day. Democratic and Republican clerks are assigned per precinct with lists covering Washington, Barr, Bogard, Elmore, Harrison, Madison, Reeve, Steele, and Van Buren townships.
