Republican candidates demand a county tax drop from forty to thirty five cents for 1907. The special session reviews next year estimates and approves appropriations for the orphans home. New building and repairs funded with specified amounts.
A string of fatal and near fatal events struck the county starting Sunday afternoon when Patrick Trainor a saloon keeper died of cerebral hemorrhage after collapsing in his driveway. Inquests ruled the cause as cerebral hemorrhage. Trainor aged forty six leaves multiple brothers in Kansas and one in the west. Funeral at Simon's church with burial in St John’s cemetery. Also reported are the deaths of Mrs June Kindred eighty four widow of farmer William Kindred who died at Simpson home on Prairie creek. Burial Oak Grove cemetery. Elizabeth Currico eighty died Sunday from asthma. Thomas Stringfellow miner aged around fifty one died Sunday afternoon, funeral at Oak Grove cemetery. John Stringfellow’s family noted. A miner named Stringfellow who resided at 51D southeast Fifth Street died Sunday after a long illness. Also loss of life from typhoid pneumonia affected Mr Wise eighty and his son-in-law Yaudas twenty seven, from Vincennes.
Petersburg report says the Du Bois county democratic central committee refused the nomination for joint representative for Alden J. Hearing editor of Winslow Dispatch and cashier at Banic. Pilko county democrats placed him in nomination at their June 15 convention. Chairs of both counties call a joint convention in Jasper on September 20 with Pike county having eleven delegates and Du Bois fifteen.
The court records show Adam Ebler versus Mary H Leslie and others with an attachment in process. Heffernan and Matlingly serve as attorneys for the plaintiff in this civil action.
A large Sunday and Monday river outing near Gamp Manning drew many families including Henry Burkhardt and children, Jacov Mandabach, Andrew Baymert and others. They fished along the river report good luck and returned to Washington Monday night. Nell Winters of Arkansas visited relatives in the West End. James Lord returned home to Columbus, Ohio after a visit with Jacob Swift.

Farmers near Buckley six miles southeast of town have troubled locals for some time. The sheriff answered a phone call, found two men and two women intoxicated, and arrested them. At town they appeared before Squire Kellans and pleaded guilty. Each was fined one dollar plus costs, about six dollars total per person. Names given: Banford Davis John Goggin Lizzie Upholm Nellie Lawrence.
Socialists met at Hoffmans Hill in Vincennes Monday and nominated John E. Chinn of Linton for Congress. County delegates including Clarry Bray Cassius M Inkan Henry Herr Frank D. GB Pyitchott and Samuel Smif attended.
The Barr township board awarded a gravel road extension project of one and three fourths miles to M H Wilson for 5970 dollars, about 3 876 25 per mile, less than the estimate. Engineer George A Talth was named for the extension while Musselman, Heinman and others submitted bids and licenses were granted for liquor. Local social notes include a picnic at Gandelburg and residents Mill a Johnson and relatives.
George Belcher of East Fountain Street celebrated his birthday Sunday turning an age. About forty relatives and friends attended a surprise party at his home. A supper was served at evening. Guests from out of town included Mr and Mrs Clements of St Louis and Mrs Vater Beicher of Bedford.

A seven-year-old boy, Tomey of Edwardsport, drowned Sunday in the White River while with his father Perry Tomey and relatives. They were walking from the Clinton home toward a station when they turned to gather mussel shells and pearls. The boy slipped underwater and was recovered an hour later, deceased. Perry Tomey is brother to William Tomey of Plainsville.
