River Valley hosts a four day beagle trial at Conserva tias drawing 350 hounds and many handlers. The event opens with talks on fire prevention and lighted piggy lanterns as field trial secretary treasurer Conrad presides. Bennie and the Conserva t ladies supplied meals, helping the event run smoothly.
Funeral services for Fred R. Colbert were conducted at Gill Chapel Saturday afternoon by Rev. Raymond Marchio. Present were family members and close friends, including John Brownlow Gaines Virgil McCrack Harris and Ralph Swartz-Smith.
Washington City Schools will close at noon on Tuesday in observance of Armistice. The move allows participation in community gym events and a public gathering.
Dr Peppert Rainey a noted brain specialist from Los Angeles will visit Loogootee during a hunting trip. He plans to meet residents and discuss medical topics during his stay.

Two people received injuries in a highway collision on 257 near the Oak Church while traveling from Indiana to Orwell to visit Mrs. Hull. A Chevrolet skidded and nearly totaled the vehicle, injuring Mrs. Hull with two broken bones and facial cuts.

The Rev. Louis O. Richmond 76 longtime Shelbyville pastor emeritus died Saturday night in a hospital. He retired in 1943 after serving First and Central Presbyterian churches in Indianapolis and also preached in Farmersburg Washington Knights Town and other churches abroad. He held an honorary doctorate from the University and belonged to Masons and Elks. He is survived by his widow and four children. Funeral arrangements not yet made.

Indianapolis November 10 The Indiana Tax Study Commission reports to the 1953 session recommending no new major taxes at this time It outlines four measures to raise revenues and six to cut present taxes including elimination of the state property tax and the state poll tax. It also suggests local surtaxes, withholding on salaries, and improved administration to boost revenue.
The notes list admitted patients including Mrs Rosé Brewer and Miss Vonda Beasley with addresses in Shoals Odon and Indianapolis along with others. Discharges include Agnes Cavanaugh and Cephas Conrad among several from Loogootee and French Lick. Births report a girl to Mrs Claude Huff and girls to Mrs Eugene Brown and others with dates noted as today yesterday and Saturday. Blood donors include John Jones Harry Cates Andrew Breyton and others.
Anna M. Riester 62 of 410 East Pearl Street died suddenly at Daviess County Hospital at 9 45 Sunday after a brief illness following a major operation last Friday. She was born March 4 1890 in Martin County and married George P. Riester June 2 1914. Survivors include her husband four children seven grandchildren and several siblings. Funeral Mass will be at St Simon's Church at 9 a m Wednesday with burial in St John Cemetery. The body lies at Keller Mortuary with Rosary by the D of I tonight and altar society and Knights of St John dues services scheduled.
United Nations forces, aided by heavy artillery and air power, won a 12 hour battle to take Anchor Hill on the east coast of North Korea. The assault buried two North Korean battalions totaling about 1,500 troops on the crest of the strategic height. The action marked the main overnight engagement as the front saw only minor probes elsewhere along the line.

A 1951 Mercury driven by Conrad Hanna of Odon skidded off Highway 57 at 6 30 p m to avoid a car pulling out. It struck a parked car belonging to Gordon Strange, then Morgan, then Norwood Dougherty’s auto. The three parked vehicles suffered minor damage while Hanna’s car incurred about 800 dollars in damage and caught fire. Fire was extinguished by Plainville men. Hanna was fined for speeding.
Funeral services for Professor Lawrence Wheeler of the Indiana University Journalism School will be held in Bloomington Tuesday morning with cremation and commitment services in Princeton. He died Sunday at his Bloomington home after a heart ailment. A World War I Army veteran, Wheeler was a former city editor at Columbia University and later worked for the Indianapolis Star and Princeton newspapers. He would have been 56 on November 25.
Petersburg, Indiana scene where two deer hunters fired nearly simultaneously, killing a deer. Police officer Howard Lytton advised splitting the deer into two equal halves after the incident so both hunters would be satisfied, and no blood was shed beyond the animal.
Philip Murray a 66 year old Scottish immigrant who rose from coal miner to head the CIO died of a heart attack in his San Francisco hotel room after a banquet speech. His death triggers funeral plans and a reshuffle as CIO prepares to open its Los Angeles convention with potential successors discussed. Murray led the CIO and Steel Workers Union and was a prominent anti communism figure within the labor movement.
A weekend of severe weather in Indiana coincided with a rising accidental death toll. Darlene McTarsney, eight, died in a Franklin farmhouse fire as her mother fled through smoke with another child. Several other fatalities and injuries followed in crashes across the state, including cases in Peru, Plymouth, Rochester, and Indianapolis, marking a deadly span statewide.
