In a wartime speech Prime Minister Churchill declared Britain, having weathered the darkest days, remains prepared to fight on when Adolf Hitler and his allies seek peace. The United States promised Lend-Lease aid to Russia as part of allied support. Great Britain stood firm to confront the Axis until final victory.
Chicago November 7 general chairmen of five railway operating brotherhoods rejected Roosevelt board recommendations granting 7 percent wage increases. W Farris Hoover, 33, of Evansville, a sting geologist, was injured in a three way collision west of a Ben Ne home on F50 Thursday afternoon. He was admitted to Daviess County Hospital with a fractured knee cap after a bus driver stopped near the scene. Details spell out a westbound F50 approach and a collision involving James Mea and others in a muddled wreck report.
Atlanta report states arsenic poisoning has killed eight elephants from the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey circus. One more elephant died after leaving Atlanta and seven others had died earlier. Three remaining animals are in critical condition with slight recovery hope. Several other elephants are ill.
