Washington High School to Hold Commencement Tonight

Ninety three seniors from Washington High School will receive diplomas at the community gym tonight at 8 o’clock. J Raymond Schutz of Manchester College in northern Indiana will deliver the commencement address to a large crowd including on stage graduates and faculty. He is a former Indiana Kiwanis governor. program features processional, invocation, multiple awards, and benediction with a long list of graduating seniors announced.

The City of Washington marks Decoration Day with a 10 o'clock memorial service at the courthouse monument attended by Patriotic organizations. Banks closed all day and regular holiday mail service continues. Local businesses will close for the day while many residents travel or stay home to observe the holiday.

Mitchell Woman Injured in Mitchell Car Crash

Mrs. Anna Simpson of Mitchell was seriously bruised and with contusions after an automobile collision east of Washington on Road 50 detour. Returning home from Petersburg, she rode with three other Mitchell residents who escaped injury. Medical care was at Dr H. Co. Wadsworth’s office. The Simpson car collided with an Interstate Company truck on a hill near the city.

Loogogtee Indiana May 31 Bruce Wright local manager of Reliance Manufacturing Company received word from the Chicago office that the local plant will operate five and one half days per week with a full force of employees beginning Monday June second All former employees are urged to call in or phone the factory immediately with their intention of reporting for work Monday Wayne Turpen of Evansville was in the city yesterday.

The Washington Greys host the Bicknell Braves on Jersey Street diamonds. Greys, undefeated at home this year, face their toughest test as Bicknell adds Jamison Pickel and Decoursey. Braves beat Wheatland 5 4, Wheatland beat Vincennes 4 3 in 10 innings. Pickerings defeated Fords 16 to 9.

Parachute Jump a Success by George Babcock

George Babcock parachute jumper with Col Reg Robbins joined by locals made a successful jump Thursday afternoon from a giant tri motor Ford plane. They leapt at several hundred feet, opened chutes, and weather pushed the chute southward. A large crowd witnessed the event.

Bankers Meet At Loogootee June Fifth

The Union Bank of Loogootee will host the Daviess Martin County Bankers Association lunch and meeting in Loogootee on Tuesday evening June. All banks in the two counties are members, with about one hundred bank officials anticipated. A 6:45 luncheon at Knights of Columbus Club precedes discussions on banking problems and credits and other subjects, with a State Bankers Association representative to speak.
