Mrs. Pearl Klier 53 widow of the late Klier died Saturday at 9 15 PM at her daughter Mary Leons home 1504 Grand avenue following a brief illness She had lived at 408 NE Fifth St born January 2 1890 in Grayville Illinois daughter of Jasper and Malinda Lewis She married Mr Klier January 25 1909 and he preceded her in death The family moved to Ogden in 1923 and resided here since She was educated in Mt Car and was a member of St church She leaves several children and siblings Funeral details and rosary plans were announced with the body to be returned to the home and later removed to St Johns Cemetery for burial
The RAF announced Lancaster bombers hit the Mohne and Eder dams in Germany, causing floods that damaged Ruhr valleys. Eight Lancasters were lost in the mission. Allied forces also attacked Italian sea planes at Ostia and several Japanese ships in the Pacific. Attu fighting continued with three waves of landings and heavy combat.
Seven of Daviess county's young men were accepted Saturday after a military medical examination at Evansville. Six others were rejected. Joseph Arvin was accepted for the navy and the six others for the army: Bobby Lee McArtor, Burt Denton Thorn, Dennis Fletcher Korten, John James Luttrall, George Raymond Lindsey, and Harry Louis.
Three men were fined in justice of peace court over the weekend for traffic violations. Ralph Gates of Montgomery drove without rights and paid $9, Meredith Perkins of Montgomery RFD 2 and Rale R. Day of Plainville RFD were fined $5 each for speeding. In city court Elbert Yarborough of the city was fined $14 for speeding after a Saturday arrest by city police.
Funeral services for Aloysius M Sum were held at 10 a m Saturday at St Marys church with burial in St Johns cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Williams Wilker Lindeman John McEvilly Jeon Zinkan William Wichman and Paul Wichman.
Funeral services for Miss Josephine Young were held at St Marys Church at 8:30 AM Saturday with burial in St Johns Cemetery. Pallbearers named include William Wichman, Robert Wichman, Bernard Wichman, Ed Klingle and Henry Klingle.
Scattered reports in Daviess County describe Saturday morning hail causing leaks in roofs and property damage. Some gardens and structures were damaged with unconfirmed reports of livestock losses and possible fatalities.

Imminent danger on the Bennington levee in western Davies County kept close as floodwaters neared the top in spots. Government engineers and levee officials conducted a thorough review while preparations remained to prevent a break. County Agent John F. McKee noted significant crop damage in inundated lowlands, with farmer Marvin Osborn losing 55 acres of barley and 95 of wheat. Estimated crop losses run about 30 dollars per acre. An unusual incident last Thursday night saw Whitman and Elmer Lee rescue 13 cattle stranded on an island across the river from Dabe Ponty in Knox County. only one of the cattle drowned.
George W Bateman 80 a retired farmer living near Plainville was fatally injured when struck by a northbound car as he walked on a poorly lit pavement near a post office. He died at Daviess county hospital about 1 am Sunday. Surviving children include Sarah Lytton John Bateman Hattie Dillon Perry Bateman Grace Dunn Burton Bateman and Imogene Petty. Funeral set for 2 pm Tuesday at Mrs Lloyd Petty’s home with Rev R C Bolton officiating.
Washington Reliance Manufacturing Company workers received a War Department telegram relayed by General Dwight D. Eisenhower. The message praises Allied push in North Africa and credits American industry, labor, and management for victory. It salutes the men and women of Reliance for their role in the effort.
John Wesley Chambers aged 88, longtime Jasper Desk Co. employee for 40 years, died at noon Sunday at the Xiness County Hospital in Washington. Survived by two sons Dr. O. R. Chambers of Corvallis Oregon and Remis Chambers of Jasper, and a daughter Golda Chambers of Jasper. Funeral arrangements not yet set.

Funeral services for Walter Mullen were held Friday morning at St Martin's Church Whitfield with burial in adjacent cemetery. Pallbearers and flower girls included Arve Patti Anh Virginia Rose Mullen Thresia Arvin Barbara.
Miss Maria reports selling vegetables and flowers from her garden in 1942 for 86 dollars and 35 cents, a decline from the prior year. Local records show lower earnings than the previous season.
Gov. Henry Schricker and army navy officials attended the Beacon plant ceremony as the Reliance Manufacturing Company Loogootee received the Army Navy E for excellence in production of navy whites. Hadden reported today the drop reflects curtailment of pleasure driving under saline rationing. In Idaho’s Bayette County 1942 crop harvest closed businesses until 4 0 p m daily to allow workers to reach the fields.
OMEN Washington resident Sergeant William Steele of the Army Air Forces Caribbean Area receives a promotion to technical sergeant. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Luther Steele of 1419 North St Washington Indiana and previously worked as a general and sports reporter for the Washington Democrat before enlisting January 7 1941. Also listed are Pvt John A Hagerty at Desert Maneuvers APO 544 Los Angeles California and Pvt Joseph B Hagerty of Co B 16th Bn Rég 5 Fort McClellan Alabama.
Pfc Joseph L Potts has been moved from Camp Hood Texas to the training school at Springfield Massachusetts in a scheduled military reassignment.
