Servel official and general sales manager of Evansville was the principal speaker at the Rotary club luncheon at Ney's Cafe. He spoke on the role of salesmen in American industry, urged citizens to study issues and vote intelligently, and introduced Earl Allison as the senior high school guest.
Miss Josephine Young 72 longtime resident of Washington died at 9 45 a m at her Maxwell Avenue home after a five months illness. Born January 15 1871 to John and Rozina Young she attended St Mary s School and belonged to St Mary s church and the Altar Society. Survived by sisters Mrs Elizabeth Spann Mrs Mary Fichman Mrs Helen Klingel and brothers Jesse J Tillie and Sophia Young of Washington plus numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Keller Mortuary.
Washington May 12 The White House plans to explain wage freezing policies within days aiming to avert a nationwide coal strike. President Roosevelt held talks with advisers including Harold Ickes and James Byrnes and scheduled sessions with War Labor Board chair Wm H Davis. The WLB pushed action, while John J Lewis resisted. The board’s power was limited by the administration’s hold the line anti inflation order of April 8.

Loogootee Indiana May 12 Walter Mullen age 65 died at his home at 11 a m Tuesday after a five day pneumonia illness. He was born October 2 1877 in Martin County son of Patrick and Lucy Doyle Mullen. He married Kate Mullen October 24 1916 and survived by wife and three children two of whom died young and a son Vernon missing in action in Africa. Surviving siblings include Mrs Catherine Greenwell Mrs Martin Nolan Miss Cora Mullen Mrs Marion Arvin Warner Mullen and George Mullen with Harry and Willie dead. Funeral 9 a m Friday at St Martin church south of town burial in St Martin cemetery. Body moved from Norris Funeral Home to Warner Mullen residence.

Cleveland pitcher Mel Harder, 32, will miss about two months after breaking his leg in the May 9 game against the St. Louis Browns in St. Louis. Harder, who joined Cleveland in 1928, won 13 games last season.
Donald William Abel infant son of Ernest and Zirethia Abel died Monday night at the family home on RFD 1 Shoals. Born November 9 1941 the child had been ill for months with a spine injury. Surviving: parents, three brothers Harold Dale Roy and sister Shirley Ann. Funeral Thursday at 2 pm Wagoner Chapel Church with Rev Hawkins of Odon officiating. Burial in the adjoining Cemetery.
