Vincennes Indiana June 30 Ward Davis 24 year old former high school athlete denied parole by the State Clemency Board after a decade of legal battles over the first degree murder of his 17 year old sweetheart Anna France. Davis now faces at least one year before eligibility and the case drew strong local opposition from relatives and supporters in Pike County and Petersburg. The lengthy hearings and appeals, tied to the Ed Sanders case and Judge A Dale Eby proceedings, highlighted community tensions and political influence surrounding parole determinations.
Indianapolis June 30 1940 former Indiana governor and high commissioner to the Philippines Paul V McNutt urged keeping domestic autonomy for the islands while the United States maintains control over key issues.
