Springfield June 30 Governor Horner grants extradition for return murder charges in Illinois. The requisition follows a reign of terror by a state policeman and a Dixon encounter where a sergeant was mortally wounded as two desperadoes were accosted in a stalled automobile.
The Public Service Commission of Indiana fixes Tuesday July 26 at 1 pm for a public hearing in Montgomery on the B and O Railway’s request to discontinue an agent there and convert the station to prepay service.
Funeral services for Vincent Geo. Hermestroff son of Eugene C and Laura M Hermestroff will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 at Our Lady Help of Christians church with burial in All Saints cemetery following the service.
Ernest Osha of South Washington, a truck gardener, brought in a remarkable radish for The Democrat’s collection. The vegetable shows a starting root, a double radish, another two inch root, and a third double radish before the root tapers. A fourth bunch on the end was broken off during this display.
Police report a 1929 Ford coupe owned by Earl Clements of West Van Trees Street was stolen around 5:30 yesterday afternoon. The vehicle bears license 226-633. Also reported the night before last was a tractor and cultivator taken from Ed Scott east of Washington, loaded on a truck at Bethany cemetery.
Frank Vonderschmitt was elected president of the Chamber of Commerce for the coming year at a board meeting this afternoon. He succeeds Dr. T. Charles Smiley who led the group for the past five years. Also chosen were vice president Paul Bausman, mercantile division chairman Sam Scott, secretary Harry Hyatt, and treasurer Court Hayes. Directors were chosen last week and then named the officers today.
Indianapolis announces a WPA grant of 1,855,970 dollars to hire 600 white collar workers for a statewide visible inventory of all equipment and property. Wm. P. Cosgrove, chief examiner of the state board, stated the plan today.
Horses began arriving at Graham Farms race track for the Fourth of July celebration. Jasper Indiana June 30 Ott Workman of Loogootee was sentenced to life in prison after a Dubois circuit court jury found him guilty of conspiracy in the near fatal shooting of Charles Busch a Haysville resident. Jurors deliberated from about 11 45 this morning until 3 10 this afternoon. The life sentence is mandatory under Indiana law and Workman plans an appeal.
