Petrograd reports seven Russian army regiments refused orders and one arrested its officers. War Minister Kernesky ordered arrests and court martial. Austrian general Rohr selected 120 peace delegates, including an Austrian prince, who advanced with white flags to outline a cessation of hostilities without formal government action.
United Press reports Major General Pershing commander in chief of the American expedition was formally received by King George VI in a private audience. Pershing and his staff then began work with British military chiefs as they prepared for transfer to the French front, while London papers praised the visit and welcomed the American force.
Eleven individuals linked to an anti draft campaign were arrested following federal actions. Among those taken into custody are two Unitarian clergymen and eleven socialists who participated in the anti conscription movement.

May 7 report states 167 workers unaccounted for after a Wingtoe Speculator mine fire began when a power cable shorted. At 2400 foot level the blaze spread, 415 men were at work. 213 escaped, leaving 167 unaccounted. Rescue efforts continue under officials.

Springfield six miles from the Crenshaw place where the Keet infant Lloyd Keet aged fourteen months was kidnapped May 30. The body was found in an abandoned well near the Crenshaw place, tying the case to the Riley gang kidnapping plot. Two suspects in custody deny knowledge of the abduction while authorities expect a fuller confession from Claude Piersot.
New York June 9 hope based on cables since the first shock of the San Salvador disaster that the quake did not take a heavy toll of life. Reports suggest deaths may be higher in provincial towns while San Salvador losses are mainly to property. San Miguel reports only about 100 houses left standing in San Salvador as lava and boiling water from surrounding volcanoes follow the quakes.

Springfeld June 9 The Mines board of legal strategy led by Governor Lowden and Attorney General Brundage will proceed against Illinois railroads violating the state 2 cent fare law despite a federal court ruling in St Louis that allowed fare increases to 2.4 cents. The group asserts the state will prosecute violators as if the federal action did not occur.
